Tangled and knotted hair can be a huge nuisance especially with difficult to manage knots. The problem with knots and tangles is that not many people take the time to prevent them. With a few tools and easy tweaks to your daily routine, you can put a stop them before they happen.
Let’s look at how to keep your tangles at bay.
Get a Wide-Tooth Comb
A wide-tooth comb is going to be your best friend when it comes to undoing any tangles or knots from your hair. The teeth on these combs are much thicker and wider that a regular styling comb. The added space between each tooth of these combs allows it to move more gently through your hair and easily untangle your hair.
The absolute best way to remove any knots or tangles is to run your wide-toothed comb through your hair immediately after showering. Many people will naturally start combing the hair from the roots, but the fact is that you should be doing this the opposite way. Start by holding your hair mid-shaft and combing through at the very bottom of your hair. Work your way up and have patience. If you get to a particularly bad knot, wiggle your comb around a bit to loosen it up. But, be careful when you comb, because wet hair is more fragile than dry hair.
When It Comes To Towel Drying — Pat, Don’t Rub
When your hair is wet, it is at it's most fragile state. For most, this is when we are the most aggressive with our hair. Some tend to scrub their hair with towels like we did as kids and not even think twice about it. This not only increases breakage and damage, but this can also create large knots that can only be removed by the blades or a pair of scissors. This is something you will wish to avoid all together!
After you shampoo and condition your hair, use your hand to squeeze out the excess water. Instead of vigorously rubbing your hair dry, take the extra time to pat your hair dry with the towel. Then allow your hair to air-dry or use a blow dryer on the cool setting. Simple, yet effective and of course no knots!
Braids Before Bed
Ever wake up in the morning to tangles that seem to magically appear overnight? Try wearing a protective hair style at night instead of wearing your hair down. This will not only help in preventing knots and tangles at night, but you will also wake up to having lively waves throughout your hair!
One of our favorite hairs styles for bedtime is the French Braid. It’s simple to do and should hold your hold your hair in place for the entire night. For more shine and waves in the morning, try using a good quality leave-in conditioner before braiding. If braiding your hair is not your thing, a loose bun on top can certainly do the trick!
The Satin Secret
Tossing and turning on that cotton pillow case can be doing as much harm to your hair as rubbing it dry with a cotton towel. Cotton pillow cases not only cause a lot of friction and tangled hair, but they also absorb the natural oils in your hair leaving it dry, brittle, and more susceptible to breakage and spilt ends.
Let me introduce you to the satin pillowcase! Not only do they feel amazing to sleep on and provide benefits for your skin, they are also smooth enough so your hair practically glides across the fabric rather than be forcibly rubbed. You can buy satin and even natural silk pillowcases at most major retailers and you can even find specialty beauty variants. If you don’t want to say goodbye to your cotton pillowcases, wrapping your hair in a satin or silk scarf at night will do too!
Use the Right Conditioner
Conditioning your hair helps to restore moisture back into your hair which will leave it smoother and less likely to tangle. We recommend that you always condition your hair after shampooing. And if you are not a daily shampoo person, using just a conditioner on your off days can be quite beneficial.
Our VITAMINS Conditioner has you covered! The naturally lightweight formula gently detangles while it penetrates deeply into the hair shaft for total follicle restoration that won’t ever weigh hair down. It contains powerful European Baicapil that promotes fast growth for men and women and is combined with organic biotin, argan, coconut, jojoba oils & more to grow thick, healthy locks the natural way!
Preventing knots can prove to be much easier to do than spending hours of efforts detangling. Spending a little extra time at night and after the shower can save yourself a big headache down the road. Some knots can end up requiring a drastic haircut…and nobody wants it to come to that!
