Should I Wash My Hair Every Day?

Posted by Cynthia Ferrara on

We’ve been told many times that washing your hair every day is bad. We’ve been told that they will dry your hair out, stripping hair of natural oils. However, that isn’t always the case. It usually comes down to personal preference.

Is it good or bad to wash your hair everyday? The short answer: it depends.

Shampoo helps to trap oil on your scalp, however, it doesn’t know the difference between good oils, like the kind your scalp naturally produces to lubricate and protect, and bad oils like dirt and product residue.

Washing your hair too frequently can dry it out making it look dull and lifeless. However, if you are using a shampoo specifically formulated with nourishing oils and natural botanicals, you can safely wash your hair more frequently. Also, if you live in a really humid climate or sweat a lot, it’s important to wash your hair everyday to maintain cleanliness.

At a bacterial level, washing daily is beneficial because the same natural oils that are beneficial to your follicles can become harmful if left alone. They can nourish fungal growth and create an itchy, patchy red scalp. If you have a naturally oily scalp, you will want to wash daily to avoid fungal growth. (Tip: try VITAMINS Shampoo formulated with coconut oil to benefit from its naturally anti-fungal properties).

Life happens, and we can’t always get a shower when we want one. However, you should never go longer than 14 days without washing. You need shampoo to help grow your hair. Shampoo helps to shed dead skin cells that can pile up and block your pores, making it difficult for hair to grow. Plus, washing your scalp helps to increase blood flow and circulation, stimulating growth.

Hair growth products are designed to work on contact, so the more you use them, the quicker you will see results. Just make sure you are using a formula like VITAMINS Hair Growth Shampoo that is gentle and nourishing
